A Poem by Sandy Benitez

Enigma

We exchanged our pain
after the third Autumn
of our acquaintance.
Momentarily,
I located your heart
beneath the engima
of your words,
poems that scattered
like monarchs
upon a pale grey sky
of dreams.

I have never held a net
but in my quest
for beauty of your kind
I become the hunter
in my red poppy dress,
capturing pieces of you
along the meadow's edge.
The puzzle of you evades me
and you splinter
into tinier fragments
I cannot decipher.
