A Poem by Kelley Jean White

the children found the stash of hippy clothes too soon

under the eaves
in the attic
one army surplus backpack
my embroidered jeans
prairie skirts
denim vest and leather jacket
and all the soft sweet t-shirts
the messages faded
wearing away
raveling
before I could teach them
how to read
